The easy way to pay for college

More and more it seems that college is the likely next step in a person’s education after high school. However, people still face some inhibitions about attending college. One of those limitations is money. College tuition has exploded in recent years and financing a college education has become increasingly difficult. There are plenty of ways to eliminate or at least alleviate college debt, though most of these plans are usually not so advantageous to you in the long run. There are loans and credit cards and even grants, but one of the best forms of financial aid is scholarships. Scholarships are awarded to thousands of people for a variety of different areas. The following are some scholarships that are awarded in different areas; some are based solely on a specific area while others are literally open to nearly anyone.
AXA Achievement Scholarship-This scholarship is awarded to a student from every state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. This scholarship, worth $10,000 dollars is given to students who set and reach ambitious goals, and also demonstrate drive and determination as well as a respect for self, family, and community.

Rural Health Opportunities Program (RHOP)-This scholarship is primarily targeted at rural Nebraska residents who are pursuing a career in the health science field. After a students complete their undergraduate studies at either Wayne or Chadron State Colleges, they are then automatically accepted into the University of Nebraska Medical Center. This scholarship is highly competitive and candidates are chosen based on academic potential and a commitment to practice in rural Nebraska.

Health Science Scholars Program-Students pursuing a health science career and planning to attend UNK is the requirement for this scholarship that pays the freshman year of tuition. Applicants must also have an ACT score of 22, maintain a 3.0 GPA in high school, and rank in the top 50% of their graduating class.
-Deadline: February 1, 2008
Beta Sigma Psi National Lutheran Fraternity-The exact amount of this scholarship wasn’t given, but eligible candidates are Lutheran men who are attending UNL in the fall of 2008. Scholastic achievement, leadership as well as school and community involvement will also play a factor. Applicants are encouraged to apply quickly, but recipients will not be informed if they are a winner until August 15, 2008.
Burger King Scholarship-This is a $1,000 scholarship open to high school seniors with a GPA of 2.5, who demonstrates financial need, who are actively involved in the community, and who works a part-time job an average of 15 hours a week for 40 weeks per year.

Northeast Equipment Inc. (NEI) Scholarship-Local graduating seniors who plan to attend a two-year college and majoring diesel technology or agribusiness are eligible for this scholarship. Winners will not be announced until completion of the first semester of college. There will be two $1,000 winners. Winners will also have first pick at internships at Northeast Equipment Inc. between their first and second years of college.
