Advanced Computers Students Go Back to First Grade

On Friday, October 26th, Mrs. Rusk's high school Advanced Computers class took a trip back to first grade in Ms. Stading's classroom. This time, however, they were the teachers instead of the students. This year our school received, amongst other new technology, two new SMARTBoards. A SMARTBoard is an interactive whiteboard that enhances student learning. Ms. Stading and Mrs. Rusk have been working collaboratively to integrate this new technology into their curriculums.
After training on the new SMARTBoard, the Advanced Computers class was ready to create lessons for the first graders. In groups, they made two math lessons and one language arts lesson which centered around Ms. Stading's curriculum. First grade students were able to solve the problems on the SMARTBoard, as well as at their desks with the handouts the Advanced Computers class made. The time spent in the first grade class was a great experience for all involved. Here is what some of the high school students had to say:
"My experience with the first graders was awesome! I liked creating a lesson and having them do it on the SMARTBoard. I loved seeing their smiling faces when they saw us walk in the door. It was fun interacting with them and just having a good time. I can't wait to do it again."
"It was a great experience teaching the 1st graders about the SMARTBoard. I believe that all of us had a great time. I believed that the SMARTBoard helped inspire the 1st graders into learning. I think the SMARTBoard will help the 1st graders better understand school activities, and let them have fun at the same time. It was quite fascinating teaching the 1st graders."
"During the time we spent with the 1st graders I learned a lot. The SMARTBoard is a great thing to start using in all the classrooms. The 1st graders had a lot of fun using it and are beginning to use it very well. Overall I think the trip to the 1st grade went very well."
The Advanced Computers students would like to thank the administration and teaching staff for their cooperation during this activity.
