What is "environmental print"?
An After School Program Investigation

Mrs. Hoffart's After School Program students were recently asked this question, "What is environmental print?" Prompted by a story being read in her reading class, Mrs. Hoffart explained to students that "environmental print" is the print of everyday life including symbols, signs, numbers, and colors. Some favorite examples include McDonald's, Wal-Mart, and Pizza Hut. Knowing that we wouldn't find those signs in Wakefield, the group went in search of "environmental print" in our community. You may be surprised at what they found. Check out their great detective skills by clicking on the slideshow. The following day, Mrs. Hoffart's first graders enjoyed a new book in their classroom library, Environmental Print, that included pictures taken on the trip.
