Shakespeare in the Classroom

by Ms. Simmons and Mrs. Vander Weil

February 04, 2010

“Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?”

“But wherefore art not in my shop today?”

“Double, double, toil and trouble.”

Do you know the meanings of these lines from Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar, and Macbeth, respectively?  If not, ask your high school student if he or she can translate these lines for you.

Mrs. Vander Weil and Ms. Simmons started out the semester with Shakespearean plays.  The ninth graders are reading Romeo and Juliet, the tenth graders are reading Julius Caesar, and the twelfth graders are reading Macbeth.
