4 Wrestlers Make State
February 15, 2010
It has been 40 years since Wakefield has sent 4 wrestlers to the State Tournament but that all changed this past weekend. Seniors Trever Rose at 135 pounds and Wyatt Jacobsen at 119 pounds both earned a second place finish. While junior Brendan Nicholson at 171 pounds earned 4th place and junior Christian Gallardo at 112 pounds earned a 3rd place finish. "It was an exciting weekend with some great matches...we certainly would have liked to have more qualifiers but I'm absolutely happy with our outcome" stated Head Coach Travis Volk.
Trever Rose qualified as a freshman and placed 6th at the state tournament and Christian Gallardo qualified in 2009. He finished the state tournament with 2 wins and 2 losses, just out of medal contention. This is the first qualification for both Jacobsen and Nicholson.
The state tournament will begin Thursday at 4:30 for the 1st Round, Quarterfinals at 8 pm. For a full schedule and information on tickets please go to www.nsaahome.org then navigate to the wrestling page.
Names are listed in order for a 16-man bracket--#1 meets #2, #3 vs. #4, etc. Information in parentheses: Wins-Losses-Grade in school.
