The Wakefield speech team was runner-up at the C2-3 district meet at Creighton on March 8. The top three placers in each event qualify for state. State qualifiers include varsity OID, 3rd Place--Ryan Conyers, Mercedes Greve, Morgan Lunz, Hannah Paxton, and Scott Wageman; Duet, 1st Place--Torie Allemann and Hannah Paxton; Humorous, 3rd--Morgan Lunz; Poetry, 3rd--Torie Allemann.
Other district placers: Extemporaneous--Scott Wageman, 4th and Tim Campton, 5th; Poetry--Hayley Zamzow, 5th; Persuasive--Tara Bjorklund, 4th and Amanda Luhr, 5th; Serious Prose--Victoria Nelson, 6th; JV OID--Tara Bjorklund, Paige Ellis, Sydney Rose, Abby Schultz, and Hayley Zamzow, 5th.
Other ratings: Humorous--Victoria Nelson, Excellent; Duet--Ryan Conyers and Mercedes Greve, Superior; Informative--Sydny Vander Veen, Excellent and Alison Luhr, Superior; Serious Prose--Abby Schultz, Excellent; Entertainment--Lauren Barge and Paige Ellis, Excellent.
Team standings: 9th - Ponca; 8th - Randolph, 7th - Osmond; 6th - Neligh-Oakdale; 5th-Laurel-Concord; 4th and 3rd Tied with 90 points-Creighton and Hartington CC, Wakefield - 2nd place with 99 points, and Plainview 1st with 122 points.
Class C2 State Speech is Friday, March 19 in Kearney.
