There are three preschool rooms this year, with 19 preschoolers in each room, making 57 preschoolers in all. The students are taught by 3 teachers and 5 aides. We asked the teachers some questions like: What are the kids learning? Why did you want to be a preschool teacher? What’s your favorite thing? Mrs. Kaufman stated, “ The kids are learning letters, shapes, colors, numbers and how to get along with each other.” She also said her favorite thing about preschool is seeing the preschoolers grow and learn throughout the year. Mrs. Kaufman wanted to be a preschool teacher just for the fun of it and to make a difference in the preschoolers’ lives. Mrs. Sharpe is another preschool teacher. We asked her what the kids learn in preschool. She replied, “They learn good behavior, letters, numbers, rhymes, and standing in line.”
We also interviewed some preschoolers about their experience here in the school. When asked what their favorite thing about preschool was, Austin said, “I like playing with the toys and reading books.” Joshua likes playing with the toys, coloring and playing outside. Juan stated, “ I like school because of the teachers and friends and I like reading books and playing outside.”
The preschool playground is also new. The fence was put in for the children’s safety. There is a lot of equipment for the preschoolers to play on. We asked Mr. Wulf, the elementary principal, what new things will the added to the preschool playground. Mr. Wulf said, “This December the preschoolers are going to pick what they want for the playground. Then, next year we will put it in.”
