New Faces in the School

News from the 6th Grade

by Shelby, Danielle, and Rigo

August 31, 2010

This is the fall of 2010 in Wakefield Elementary School.  There are many new faces in the hallways, so we decided to see how everyone was doing in their new school.  We begin with Mr. Wulf.  This is Mr. Wulf’s second year, so we thought we would see how his first year has gone as elementary principal.  Mr. Wulf lives in the large town of Sioux City.  He graduated from Denison-Schleswig, Iowa with 177 other kids.  Mr. Wulf is happy that he sees kids riding their bikes to school.  It shows the safety of the community without the presence of gangs that you often see in larger towns.  Mr. Wulf also said that he likes the town of Wakefield and all the nice people.

Let’s move on to the new students this year.  There are 26 new students in the district, 10 ten are in the elementary.  Of course, preschoolers and Kindergartners are new as well.  We interviewed some of these new students to see how they like Wakefield.  Nahomi, a fourth grader who came from Wayne, says she likes the breakfast and nicer teachers and kids. Rigo came from Phoenix, AZ and is in the 6th grade.  He said, “My old school wasn’t fun because it has only one or two recesses that last only 5 minutes, but they have more computers than here. I like the friendly teachers and kids. Plus, it is not as hot here.”  Another student we interviewed was Moises, a sixth grader from California.  He commented, “We get a longer recess in California, but we don’t get to move classes.  The food is horrible there.”  Moises is looking forward to art and guidance class and field trips.  With all these new faces, let’s do our best to make them feel welcome.
