Wakefield School Participants in the Legislative Chamber

Empowering Nebraska Youth

by Travis Volk

December 18, 2008

Wakefield Community School students from the Graphic Communications and American History class participated in the First Annual Empowering Nebraska Youth Summit held at the Nebraska State Capital. Over 100 students and supporters from 5 schools attended this event which is organized to improve our local communities. The Wakefield students are working on a digital history of the town from its early beginnings to the present day. The other schools are concerned more with improving their towns with jobs, businesses, entertainment and other items. After hearing the other schools presentations "we found that our community (Wakefield) has a lot of great things and resources compared to many of these towns" Scott Wageman.

Schools participating were: Minden, Southern Valley, Eustis Farnum, Norris High and Wakefield. The summit is funded by a grant from the University of Nebraska Foundation and is organized by the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
