by Deb Garwood and Amber Johnson

January 29, 2010

The fifth grade students are developing and preparing science fair projects. The projects include the components of the scientific method. These areas include: Question, Hypothesis, Materials, Procedure, Review of Literature, Results, and Implications for Future Study.

The students have explored a variety of subjects. Some of the questions posed include:

"What fruit will decay the fastest: a banana, an orange, or an apple?"

"Will Mentos cause a greater fizz reaction in Diet Coke or regular Coke?"

"Which crystal garden will grow the fastest: one with laundry bluing or one without laundry bluing?"

"Will ammonia change a liquid to a solid?"

The students have enjoyed diversity of the projects along with the outcomes they have discovered. These projects will be on display in the elementary hallway during parent-teacher conferences on February 11, 2010. You will enjoy examining their completed work.
