First Graders Celebrate 100th Day!

Mrs. Schultz and Mrs. Hoffart’s first graders celebrated the 100th Day of school on February 1, 2010 in a BIG way! Counting to 100 is an important skill that all first graders need to learn. To make the experience more remarkable, Mrs. Hoffart’s class used the “101 Dalmatians” to count each day of school. As the last dogs were hung on the wall, the classes got together and watched the “101 Dalmatians” movie. A special treat for all of the students included bringing 100 little treats to share with classmates. Some examples of the snacks shared with the class are Skittles, M & M’s, cereal pieces, popcorn, and mini-cookies. Each student was then asked to share 10 snacks with 10 other students. If you get ten treats from ten people – how many treats do you have? That’s 100 bite-size treats to enjoy during the movie. The students agreed that eating the snacks was WAY more fun than counting them! Other 100th Day activities included collecting signatures in a 100 Autographs Book, putting together 100 piece puzzles, finding 100 words that we know, sorting 100 objects, and looking for patterns on a 100 chart.
