Wakefield Art Club to host THE BIG SHOW!

Over 1,000 Pieces of Artwork on Display.

by Mike Hassler

March 09, 2010

The Wakefield Art Club will be sponsoring THE BIG SHOW which is to be held on Wednesday, March 24th in the Activity Center.  The reason for calling it THE BIG SHOW is that there were over 50 schools invited to take part in this year’s art show.  Unfortunately, all 50 plus schools cannot fit in our activity center with all of their wonderful artwork, so the first 20 schools that register will be invited.

What is the purpose of THE BIG SHOW?  First of all it gives our art students a chance to interact with other art students and partake in a day dedicated to just the visual arts.  This is also a wonderful opportunity to see a wide range of artwork from schools all over Nebraska that students and the Community of Wakefield would otherwise not have the chance to see.
The day will begin with all schools hanging their own artwork from 8:00 to 10:00 in the morning.  Once artwork is hung there will be a group activity called “Making an Impression” for students to participate in over the course of the afternoon.  Students will work together to produce a collaborative piece of artwork which will be put on display in the afternoon for public viewing.

All artwork will be judged by three area judges.   Ribbons awarded will go as follows:  Purple (Judge’s Merits), Blue (1st), Red (2nd), Green (3rd), and Yellow (Honorable Mention).  There will also be an overall Best of Show awarded by the Judges, along with a chance for art students and the public to vote for the Student’s Choice Best of Show and our People’s Choice Best of Show.

THE BIG SHOW will be open to students and the public for viewing from 1:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon.  Awards and group activity artwork will be presented and displayed around 3:00.  There will be over 1,000 pieces of artwork on display from Junior and Senior High School Students from across Nebraska.  The Wakefield Elementary Students will also have artwork judged and displayed.  Schools expected to attend are Clearwater, Orchard, O’Neill, Atkinson West Holt, Burwell, Springview (Keya Paha), Elgin, Battle Creek, Randolph, Crofton, Ponca, Pender, and Omaha Nation (Macy).
