District Oration Contest
Local and Area Students Compete

On April 22, 2010, area students competed in a county/district speech contest sponsored by Modern Woodmen of America, a fraternal financial services organization.
Prior to this contest, the students had already won first, second, or third place in their local-level contests. They shared their presentations on this year's topic, "If I were president. The first-place winner Alexia Reyes, an 8th grade student from St. Michael's in South Sioux City, won a $50 cash award and a trophy. Her school will also receive an engraved trophy.
Second-place winner Brianna Samuelson, a 7th grade student from Wakefield; and third-place winner Valeria Salcido, an 8th grade student from St. Michael's in South Sioux City, also received trophies.
The top three finishers in the District Oration Contest are eligible for the regional contest that will be on Friday, April 30 at 1:00p.m. at the Morningside Library (Garretson Room), at 4005 Morningside Avenue in Sioux City, Iowa.
