Borrow eBooks & Audiobooks from OverDrive

Read eBooks or Listen to Audiobooks on Your Device

Free OverDrive service from your local public library

 

1) First, you need to have an active Library Card from a local public library:

              Wakefield's Gardner Public Library or the Wayne Public Library.

2) Once you have completed the initial setup on your device, you just need an Internet connection.

3) To login and browse & borrow books, click:

          OverDrive has Teen Fiction and NonFiction collections.

         You can return books early.  Swipe across book.  Tap 'delete.' to display return options.  Tap 'Return and Delete.'

Setting up your device:

The OverDrive app has been added to the Wakefield high school iPads for your convenience.


If you’re using another tablet or smartphone, you may want to download OverDrive’s free mobile app, OverDrive Media ConsoleTM, to easily find and save your library’s OverDrive website and to download and enjoy borrowed eBooks on your device.


Get the app from your app store or from http://omc.overdrive.com for these popular devices and platforms: Android™, BlackBerry®, iOS (iPhone®/iPad®/iPod® touch), Windows® Phone, Kindle® Fire tablets, KoboTM tablets, and NOOK® tablets.


Borrow eBooks with one click
If you’re using a tablet or smartphone, use the app’s Add a Library (or Get Books) feature to find and save your library’s OverDrive website. On any device with a browser, you can also go directly to your library’s site at:

Once you find an eBook to borrow on your library’s site, click Borrow and enter your library card information. You’ve now borrowed the eBook—that’s all there is to it!

Read in your browser with OverDrive Read
The easiest way to start reading a borrowed eBook is to use OverDrive Read (if available). OverDrive Read lets you read eBooks right in your browser—no extra software or login required. Simply click Read next to a borrowed eBook to begin reading.

Downloading eBooks:

Download Adobe Digital Editions.  Afer selecting & checking out your eBook, click on Download & then Open. ADE should open & begin the download.  To transfer the book to a reader, connect your reader to the computer via USB.  The Reader's icon should appear.  Drag the book icon from Borrowed shelf to Reader's icon.  Disconnect reader & USB.

Downloading Audiobooks

Download the Media Console. Make your audiobook selection & checkout.  Click the Download button.  Media Console will open & prompt you to chose a location for your file. Click OK.  A screen will open asking which parts you would like to download.  Check parts & click OK.  The downloading will begin.  To transfer audiobook to a portable device, connect via USB to your computer & click on Transfer icon at top of window.  Follow prompts to transfer to your device.
