The Scholastic Book Fair 2014 is Here!

Sir Readalot's Castle: Enter the kingdom of books!

September 09, 2014

The Wakefield School Library is sponsoring its annual Scholastic Book Fair from September 29 to October 2, in conjunction with Parent-Teacher Conferences.  We invite you to our school to share in this celebration of books and reading.  This year's theme is Sir Readalot's Castle:  Enter the Kingdom of Books!  We are sure that you'll find royally great reads to choose from.  Not only does the Book Fair benefit the school library with new books, but it encourages reading among our students.

Reading is one of the most important skills that you can teach and share with your child.  As students grow older, it is so important to keep books and reading in their lives.  Students who remain readers now are more likely to be life-long learners.  Readers develop larger vocabularies, a greater knowledge of the world, and higher academic achievement.  In fact, studies indicate that being a reader is more predictive of success than intelligence, economic background, or gender.

Our Book Fair provides a wide variety of books for students, from pre-school to middle school to adult.  Students will discover books that are entertaining, interesting & informative, inspirational, and that match their mood and style.  In addition, the bestsellers will appeal to adults and older teens as well.

We will be sending out book flyers to all of the students before the fair, but it contains just a few of the books that will be at the fair.  The online book fair contains an even larger selection of books.  If you are unable to attend the fair, we recommend that you use either the book flyer order form or order online by October 6.

Students will be happy to know that they can pre-order their copy of Diary of a Wimpy Kid # 9: Long Haul at the book fair for $8.99.  Special pre-order forms are available at the library desk.  The book DWK: The Long Haul will be released by its publisher for sale on November 4.  At that time all pre-orders will be shipped to the school library, with no additional postage charge, and Mrs. Klein will deliver the copies to the students.

Students and their families will also have the opportunity to help their teachers add more books to their classroom library shelves through the Classroom Wish List program.  They can purchase books on their teacher's wish list, and have a book donation sticker added inside the book with their name on it.

Students and their families who do not wish to purchase a book for their teacher's classroom, but would like to donate toward the cost of a book, can do so through the All for Books program.  The All for Books money we collect also helps readers beyond our school and community. Scholastic Book Fairs matches monetary donations with a donation of up to one million books to the Kids In Need Foundation and Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc.

All students, parents, and friends who attend have a chance to win a free book from the fair by enterring the guessing game.
