Seuss much fun

Elementary celebrates Read Across America

March 05, 2015

Wakefield students celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 2 and through the week, in honor of the children's author who made reading fun for generations of children.  We started with reading the "Reader's Promise" from the hallways and ate a Seussalious lunch with birthday cake on Monday.  Students had fun on each dress-up day through the week.  On Monday, they wore hats, Tuesday was crazy clothes day, Wednesday was Who-ville Hair Day or a chance to have flowers growing from the head like Daisy-Head Mayzie, and Thursday was for dressing up as a book character or bringing a "zoo" animal to school.

Our celebration of Dr. Seuss's birthday is held each year during the national Read Across America event.  It's a great way to celebrate the joy of reading with others.  We encourage all parents, grandparents, and other caring adults to keep reading to their children, both young & old.  We hope everyone will find joy in reading.  Visit your public & school libraries, & book stores.  Read any time, anywhere.  Read, read, READ!!!
