Career Exploration Workshop

8th graders attend NECC workshop on March 17

By Harding, Lori

March 18, 2015

The eighth grade class attended a Career Exploration Workshop at NECC on Tuesday, March 17. The day was very educational. Students learned more about how their interests can be a part of their future careers. It was very interesting to view the results of the CAPS/COPS/ COPES tests all 8th graders took at school in earlier this month. The breakout activities were very fascinating. Exploring careers through the O*NET Online website opened students’ eyes to countless career opportunities. The budgeting activity opened their eyes to what the “real world” could look like and helped them realize that spending habits need to be adjusted according to income. Following the workshop, several NECC students took 8th graders on a tour of the campus. Students enjoyed the tour and are excited to visit NECC’s campus again. Overall, it was a very interesting, educational, and fun day! The testing and workshop are activities 8th grade students participate in as part of the Career Development class taught by Mrs. Harding, school counselor.
