Battle of the Books Champions

Great job to all of our Wakefield Readers!

March 26, 2015

The Wakefield Elementary School held it's Battle of the Books Championship on March 26 in the new gym.  Both the Primary students and the Intermediate students in grades 4,5, & 6 held battles of knowledge.

The Primary grades from Mrs. Sharpe's first grade and Mrs. Gutzmann's 3rd grade battled by correctly answering questions from 10 books they have been reading and practicing through the school year.  These books are the 2015 nominees for the Nebraska Golden Sower Award.  Students answered the correct title for questions beginning with "In Which Book?" as well as the correct answer for questions about any of the books.

Mrs. Gutzmann's 3rd grade class won the Primary Battle of the Books! Congratulations!!

The two teams for the Intermediate Battles, The Perfects and The Awesome Smarties, had won 3 previous battles, from the original 13 teams.  Teams consist of students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades.  They also read the 10 Nebraksa Golden Sower nominees for their age category, both independently and in Mrs. Metzler's reading class.  In their battles, they need to identify both the correct title and the author for the questions beginning with "In Which Book"  The second half of the battle involved correctly answering questions from any of the 10 books.  As in the Primary games, the teams are allowed to steal points when the other team answers incorrectly.
