Wild West Book Fair Round-up!!

Thanks to All for attending

October 20, 2017

The Wild West Scholastic Book Fair brought a large number of students and families to the school library to visit and shop during the fall Parent-Teacher Conferences.  We sold 426 books, which according to Scholastic equals an amazing 76,724 minutes of reading!  As always, putting books into the hands of our students that they have chosen to read, is a powerful way to encourage reading.

Thank you to all who saddled up and joined us at the Wild West Scholastic Book Fair at the school library.  Though our sale time was reduced to 4 hours this year, we are pleased that our total sales still rounded-up to over $2000.  An online fair was also available for shoppers.  The School Library has benefited with the addition of nearly 30 new books taken from the fair, valued at about $800.  The library will also be able to select and order additional books for the library collection as part of the Scholastic rewards program..

The Book Fair featured a Rattlesnake Eggs guessing game and the correct guess was 287. Each of the winners chose a book from the fair.  Congratulations to the following:

    Pre-K to Kindergarten:  Aurora Y., Pre-K Kaufman (300)

    Grades 1-3:  Matthew M., 2nd grade Schlickbernd (280)

    Grades 4-6:  Arthur R., 6th Brenn (286)

    Grades 7-9:  Olivia D., 8th grade (275) / Destiny H., 8th grade (275)

    Grades 10-12:  Juanita V., 10th grade (165)

    Adult:  Lynette, Haisch (250)

Classroom teachers appreciate all of those who donated book fair books to their classrooms through the Wish List program.

The Book Fair would not be possible without the assistance of many volunteers.  We sincerely thank the following community volunteers who helped man the fair:  Michelle Boeckenhauer, Dawn Reimers, and Jamie Anderson.  Kudos also to student helpers:  Tierney P, Cleofes S., Solomon P., Austin S., Caleb S., and Leo G., who helped lift boxes of books in setting up the fair.  An especial thanks goes to Bonnie Hoffman, library para, and student library aides Andrea L. and Ilma F., who helped prepare for the fair in numerous ways, besides helping during the fair, or assisting with take down.

We appreciate all the teachers who promoted the book fair to their students and created the mustang and cowboy boot decorations with their students.  We are also grateful for the assistance and support of Ofelia Calleros, who translates the parent letter each year, and to Mr. Jerad Wulf, elementary principal.

We heartily encourage all students to keep reading at least 30 minutes a day.
