Latino Leadership Symposium

Challenge to Envision Yourself

By Harding, Lori

November 08, 2017

The City Campus Union at UN-L was the location for the 2017 Latino Leadership
Symposium hosted by UN-L on Tuesday, November 7. Several Wakefield
students had the opportunity to attend this educational and inspiring event.
Beginning at 9:00 a.m., a welcome was given by Raymond Ramirez, the
Diversity and Community Outreach Manager of UN-L. The keynote speaker for
the day was Senator Tony Vargas of Omaha. Tony challenged students to
envision themselves in places and positions thought only to be dreams. Breakout
sessions throughout the remainder of the morning included the importance of
community involvement and getting involved in student organizations while in
college. The afternoon sessions focused on specific academic areas where
students were able to learn more about earning a degree in their field of interest.
Attending from Wakefield were seniors Andrea Lopez, Sabina Palma, Josselyn
Vazquez-Catalan, Jovanni Oliver, Raul Salcedo, Carlos Urquidez, and school
counselor, Mrs. Harding.
