Mrs. Nixon's 4th graders

March 19, 2010
We have a winner for the IditaREAD challenge that began on March 1. Students in the elementary classes have been reading lots of extra minutes at home and at school to move their class team dog sleds along the checkpoints of the elementary hallways, modelled after Alaska's Iditarod dog sled race.
This year's winning team is Mrs. Nixon's 4th grade team, who read enough minutes to have "travelled" a total of 1,131 miles of the IditaREAD Trail. All the students on the winning team received the grand prize of a frozen ice cream bar, as well as a class picture on the school web page. Congratulations to Mrs. Nixon's class for a great team effort.
All other teams will keep reading until they reach "Nome," located at the Library Media Center door. A Red Lantern Award will be given to the last team to reach Nome, for their perseverance in reading to reach the IditREAD goal,.
The Library Media Center would like to thank all the students who spent lots of extra time reading this past month, and to the teachers and parents who encouraged them. We hope that the students have enjoyed the books they read and competing in the IditaREAD race. Many more good books can be found at the LMC. Mrs. Klein encourages everyone to keep reading, every day.
