The 2008-2009 school year was kicked-off the same way the
previous 53 school years began, with the annual Flag Raising
Ceremony. The Wakefield VFW and Women's Auxillary
participated with the presentation of the flag, a speech by Alvin
Sundell, the firing of the guns, and the retiring of the squad.
Pastor Charity Potter also gave a speech, referring to the
Olympic Games and asking the students to "Go for the Gold" . . .

The Nebraska Department of Education has published the official
results of the Statewide Writing Assessment, which was taken by all
4th, 8th, and 11th graders in Nebraska last spring. Students
are scored on a scale of 0 to 8 and any score above 4 is considered
