23 Juniors and Seniors Attend the Northeast Latino Youth Summit

Northeast Community College in Norfolk was the host site for the 2021 Latino Youth Summit. Approximately 150 students from 6 northeast Nebraska schools attended on September 24. After a welcome given by Northeast staff, the first keynote presentation was given by Miguel Chavez, a South Omaha native, first-generation college graduate and entrepreneur. Miguel is a successful business owner who speaks to and inspires students to overcome barriers and find their own motivation to overcome challenges in life, further their education, and pursue their career goals.

Other highlights of the Summit included: 1) Q & A panel of 4 Northeast students and 2 professionals, all of which contributed greatly to the productivity of the day. 2) Tour of the college campus. 3) Lunch. 4) Speaker, Latinx advocate and current U.S. Census Regional Coordinator, Blanca Ramirez.

The day concluded with the awarding of 10 $1,000 scholarships to Northeast. Congratulations to Mikenzie Arenas, Susana Prado, and Aishah Valenzuela, scholarship winners from Wakefield!
