Wakefield Community Schools Invites Local Veterans to Participate in Patriotic Community Event

Wakefield, Nebraska — Wakefield Community Schools is proud to partner with News Channel Nebraska on a special project celebrating the patriotism and community spirit of Nebraska towns. As part of this initiative, Wakefield has been selected to highlight its strong tradition of honoring veterans and fostering respect for our nation.

We are calling on all veterans of the Wakefield community to join us for a meaningful and memorable event on Thursday, May 7th.

Veterans are invited to attend the school’s daily morning meeting in the elementary gym, where students and staff gather as a school family each day. As part of this event, veterans will be recognized and invited to join our students in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, a tradition we proudly uphold each morning.

Event Details:
8:00 a.m. – Veterans arrive at Wakefield Community Schools (elementary gym)
~8:15 a.m. – Pledge of Allegiance recited together with students (filmed by News Channel Nebraska)
~8:20–8:45 a.m. – Veterans gather at the American Legion War Memorial on Main Street for additional video and photos
~9:15 a.m. – Coffee and cinnamon rolls provided for veterans as a token of appreciation (at Sidelines)

Following the school portion of the event, News Channel Nebraska will continue filming at the American Legion War Memorial in downtown Wakefield, capturing images and interviews that reflect the pride and gratitude our community holds for those who have served.

To conclude the morning, Wakefield Community Schools will host veterans for coffee and cinnamon rolls as a small gesture of thanks for their service and participation.

Wakefield has long been known as a community that deeply values patriotism and honors its veterans. This event is an opportunity to showcase that spirit to communities across Nebraska.

RSVP Information:
Veterans who plan to attend are asked to contact Niki Haglund at the Wakefield High School office by calling 402-287-2012 and following the prompts for the high school office.

Your participation will help represent the very best of Wakefield—its people, its pride, and its unwavering respect for those who have served.

On Thursday, April 16th, the 8th-grade students from Wakefield Community Schools went on a visit to Northeast Community College. For many of them, this was their first experience visiting a college campus. This visit was organized as an effort to encourage students at a young age to begin thinking about their post-secondary education/plans. The 8th graders arrived on campus and began the day with a fun activity to determine which careers may be a good fit for them based on their skills and interests. The inventory focused on the following areas: nature smart, logic smart, body smart, people smart, creative smart, and industrial smart. The NECC recruiters incorporated fun minute-to-win-it activities related to these skills, which engaged the students. After the skills and interest inventory and activities, the students were broken into groups and toured the campus. Students had the opportunity to check out the dorms, the student center, and various lecture halls and labs. It was an educational day that got the students fired up for their future.
