Northeast Nebraska Scholastic Contest

On Wednesday, April 1st, 20 Wakefield high schoolers participated in the prestigious Northeast Nebraska Scholastic Contest, which included hundreds of other students from surrounding Class C and Class D schools. The 20 Wakefield students were tested in 23 different subject areas, ranging from topics related to the sciences, mathematics, history, English, welding, construction, wellness, etc. The 20 students were selected by their teachers to participate in this competition based on their advanced knowledge within their respective subjects; it is an honor simply to be selected to participate. The students who participated in the event were: Sierra Kaufman, Jacob Borg, Kinslee Metzler, Cael Johnson, Mason Lamprecht, Lane Fischer, Jaden Sievers, Alexandra Garrido, Yamilet Gomez, William Benson, Jamie Lopez, Natalee Nelson, Maribel Fernandez, Nathaniel Johnson, Molly Schlickbernd, Katelyn Walsh, Rihanna Rivera, Matthew Metzler, Drake McAfee, and Israel Garcia Jiataz. When students were not testing, they were able to enjoy a movie, games, snacks, and even karaoke. After lunch at Northeast Community College's cafeteria, the results were announced at the award ceremony. Five Wakefield students earned awards. Jaden Sievers was awarded 2nd place for the Agricultural Science exam. Israel Garcia Jiataz was awarded 2nd place for the Algebra 1 exam. Sierra Kaufman was awarded 2nd place for the Medical Terminology exam. Molly Schlickbernd was awarded 2nd place for the Food and Nutrition exam. Will Benson was awarded 2nd place for the Physics exam. It was a great day with some of Wakefield Community Schools' best and brightest students.

Unfortunate but true, we do not live in Augusta National Golf Club, and cold-weather golf is a solid 0/10.

The first meet of the year at Wayne (April 2) has been cancelled. Here's to hoping the golfers can tee it high and let it fly on April 7th!

The Nebraska Department of Education recognizes six different career clusters which helps guide our career readiness education. The clusters are: Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources; Health Sciences; Communication and Information Systems; Business, Marketing, and Management; Human Services and Education; and Skilled and Technical Sciences. In the elementary, Mrs. Vinchattle teaches about opportunities in these career clusters as part of classroom guidance lessons. This year, she would like to tap into our community to find guest speakers from each cluster to share their experiences with students. If you are interested in being a guest speaker for classroom guidance lessons this Spring, please reach out to Mrs. Vinchattle at bvinchattle@wakefieldschools.org. Guidance lessons occur every day from 2-3:30 for grades K-6 and the career unit will begin on April 8. Thank you for your consideration!

Congratulations to Jaden Sievers on earning the Nebraska Eagle Scout Scholarship and the Board of Governors Merit Waiver to Northeast Community College- covering his full tuition for two years! This incredible achievement is a testament to his hard work, leadership, and dedication.

Jaden has been a highly involved member of Wakefield Community Schools, participating in One Act, Boy Scouts, track, football, SkillsUSA, and choir. His strong work ethic and positive attitude have made a lasting impact on those around him.

Jaden plans to attend Northeast Community College this fall to study Mechanized Agriculture. We are proud to call him a Trojan and will greatly miss him at Wakefield Community Schools. Best of luck in all that lies ahead, Jaden!
