It's almost Puffins Time!! The Middle School and High School Band & Choir will begin selling Pastry Puffins on January 17th. Sales will run until January 31st. The money raised will be used to help these students pay for their music trip in the Spring of 2026. If you would like to purchase puffins and are not contacted by a student, please feel free to call the school (402) 287-2012 and leave a message for Mrs. Trenhaile or Mrs. Lamprecht and they will arrange to have someone take your order. Thank you in advance for your support!

Dear Wakefield Community Schools Family and Community–
We are writing to make you aware of a recent cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool, the software vendor that provides our Student Information System (SIS).
On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, PowerSchool informed our leadership team that they experienced a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to certain PowerSchool SIS customer data. Unfortunately, they have confirmed that the information belongs to some of Wakefield Community School’s families, alumni, and staff.
PowerSchool has informed us that the impacted data primarily consists of parent and student contact information, including elements such as names and addresses. Across their customer base, they have identified that some personally identifiable information (PII), such as social security numbers (SSNs) and medical records, may have been affected for certain individuals. They are urgently investigating to determine if any PII associated with our students was compromised.
Wakefield Community Schools stopped collecting and entering SSNs into our system years ago; however, data profiles for students and families from prior years may still include SSNs. It is important to note that no lunch account or banking information was accessed in this incident.
Protecting our students is something we take seriously. With PowerSchool’s help, more information and resources (including credit monitoring or identity protection services, if applicable) will be provided to you as they become available.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Matt Farup
Superintendent

On the evening of Tuesday, January 7th, Wakefield Community Schools hosted a FAFSA Help Night at the Wakefield Achievement Center. Seniors and their parents were invited to receive hands-on guidance in completing the FAFSA, a critical step for financial aid and now a graduation requirement in Nebraska.
The event was a true team effort, featuring the expertise of three representatives from Northeast Community College, three from Wayne State College, and three dedicated Wakefield staff members. Together, they tackled questions, provided guidance, and completed applications smoothly.
To make the night even more inviting, 7-12 school counselor Meg Rose secured a $500 grant from EducationQuest, which allowed attendees to enjoy delicious food and drinks while working through the process.
Thanks to the strong collaboration the event was a success. Wakefield Community Schools remains dedicated to supporting every student in achieving their post-secondary dreams!
