The 2023 Youth Salute presented by the Greater Omaha Council Bluffs Area Council on Youth Leadership recently announced an incredible local nomination. Ashlyn Boeckenhauer, a senior at Wakefield Community Schools, was selected as one of 207 high school youth leaders from 88 schools in the metro area. She was represented at this year's Youth Salute Awards Virtual Ceremony hosted by 2023 Host University Sponsor, Nebraska Wesleyan University. A "Top Youth Leader" was named from each high school. Participating Universities/Colleges provided the opportunity for students to be awarded up to $1,673,000.00 in scholarships and other awards. This year, Bellevue University, Nebraska Wesleyan University, Clarkson College, University of Nebraska- Lincoln, University of Nebraska- Omaha and Simpson College provided scholarships. The Greater Omaha Council Bluffs Area Council on Youth Leadership was formed in 2018 to conduct the "Youth Salute" in nearby communities in cooperation with the National Council on Youth Leadership, a non-profit organization. Teachers, guidance counselors and principals nominate students to apply to attend the Youth Salute event. In order to qualify, the student had to be a junior (senior class of 2024), have a 3.0 GPA or greater and have held at least two leadership roles to which they were chosen by their peers or an adult leader within the past two years in high school, religious or community sponsored organizations. Arnold Clark Photography in Omaha photographed each student nominated. Each student is featured on a banner which is displayed at their high school. Ashlyn Boeckenhauer was offered a $4,000/year scholarship to Bellevue University totaling $16,000 over the course of 4 years. Wakefield Community Schools is very proud to have senior Ashlyn Boeckenhauer representing as a "Top Youth Leader." Congratulations to Ashlyn!
